I have a 7" red tail catfish and i recently bought a 5" arowana (only a cheap one for £22.50) the fish were fine together for the first two days but the next morning i woke up and the arowana was gone.... He didnt jump out and was not in the filter. would a RTC be able to eat a 5" arowana?

Another problem is the algae on my tank is a slight brown. It is not out of control at all. but when i scrape the glass the algae does not come off... i bought a algae scraper instead of the sponge i was using but it really makes no difference. i could probably scrub the same bit of algae all day and it would not come off with the scraper. and the algae pad takes for ever and i cant reach the back bottom part of the tank with the pad anyway.

Any suggestions on clearing this up? or products you have that clears your algae?

generally I find if fish can fit it in their mouth they will eat it.

yes! he did eat him. they are hungry fish. and WILL eat anythin that fits in there mouth. a 5in arow is nice and sleek. perfect for a rtc to eat. they do well with big bodied fish like pacu and such

I think its very possible he got eaten; RTCs will eat anything they can fit in their mouth. As far as your algae problem on the glass...you could try something like this instead--works perfect for me. Just make sure its brand new and not been used for cleaning dishes and stuff as it could have soap residue on it and what not.

Yeah, the cat ate him. Sorry....

The brown algae usually appears in new setups or low light environments. Alot of algae eating fish can help keep it a bay, but none are rtc friendly. If you increase lighting intensity, you'll get rid of it but green algae will take its place. In your case, your going to have to scrape it off manually.
