What the hell!

I have a 75 Gallon fish tank at home that when I uprgraded to a new lighting system the water turned a pea soup green and was very thick to where you couldn't see the fish from two inches away and then several weeks later the water turned sparkling clear in only a mater of two to three days and now my tank is very clear right now.

OP- How big is your tank? If you plan on putting these fish in your pond when they grow up be prepared to spend some serious money to maintain tropical temperatures. A little algae growth in your tank is the least of your problems.

Some good ideas. i likethe washing up brush idea. I dont know the exact dimensions of the tank but its big. big enough that we couldnt get it round the corner in the kitchen. but My RTC will eventually get too big for the tank and living in england my pond would kill it almost instantly. but my friend has a bigger tank that we can rehouse him in with his RTC. I might get one of them color enhancing fish tank lights? hopefully that would help?

And i had my susspissions but i my arrow always swam along the top and my catfish never ventured up the top of the tank. plus the RTC seems reasonably slow and he doesnt eat my 1 1/2 inch cichlids either :s sorry for double post

There's only one thing left to do, cut open the RTC and see.

It's a 99% chance the RTC ate him, but you should have been able to see the catfish belly protruding more than normal to verify if a 7in RTC ate a 5in arrow...

that is very sad. yes they are very capable of eating the baby arow...

Catfish definitely could eat him. The arowana was probably a quick meal. Before I switched them into saltwater, I had two toadfish (commonly called Freshwater Lionsifh at LFS). One of them was about 6-7" long at the time and I literally watched him eat a 10" black ghost knife. It took him awhile to swallow/chew him down but he did get the job done. Sad moment. Lesson to learn is that fish WILL eat other fish that can fit into their mouths if they are carnivorious for the most part......especially a fish like a RTC...huge mouths.

i'm pretty sure your rtc ate the aro.
generally they will eat anything that will fit in there mouth (some times they will try to swallow things even bigger then them).
Once I had a 7 inch Rtc and it ate my 13 inch alligator gar... they both died :(
