ya mine is acting normal would salt work? or do i need the certain medication?
how do they get this.

It's an infection that is "most" generally caused by poor water quality. There are other causes like chemicals or something of the such getting in the tank, but wq is usualy suspect. Epsom salt is said to help draw it out some, but I've never actually used it. Get a good med. I can't think of any right off. Mardell, Jungle, Aquarium Pharm....tons of brands make them. Good luck, hopefully you get to them before it gets too bad, or they'll lose an eye (possibly both).

Well i dont think my water quality is an issue . He has been in my 40 breeder for the last 2 weeks because my blackbelt had frayed his fins a lil and the wouldnt quit chasing . the 40 get a 50% wc every sunday water tests 0 0 10 so i dont think its that , hopefully he will get better . is jungle buddies parasit clear good for this ?

i just did a few big water changes to keep the water VERY nice and today it looks better! ill keep u updated.

poor guy. i would quarantine him (if hes the only one affected) and treat for a week or so with erythromyacin (a broad spectrum antibiotic) and see how he does.. hope he gets better! i had a fish with popeye before (btw i believe its not from poor water, but some kind of kidney infection/internal infection) and i treated with erythromyacin and it went away.. in 3 days i could see a big difference already.

best of luck to ya!

I've had popeye a few times before with various fish over the years. In every case, I did lots of water changes and nothing else. All cases resolved without loss of eye or sight.

likely to be an injury, depending on how bad it is it could heal, could not judjing by the pics i doubt a full recover will be made although its possible.

Defo do a water change - about 50% should do it. Add aquarium salt - about a tablespoon per gallon should do it. Knock the temp up a degree or two and give it about 24-36 hours, hopefully you should notice change.
I am not a fan of meds as I think certain chemicals do more harm than good, If you do use them I would treat the whole tank rather than quarantine one fish as the bacteria will be present in the water and may pass to other fish.
Remember to take any carbon out of the filter if using meds and if you use salt, get proper aquarium salt as the stuff in normal shops has caking agents and all sorts of crap in it.
Good luck, hope the little fella gets better soon.

I`ve always used epsom salt with a dose of 1 table spoon for every 5g and up the temp to about 28-30c. You can try pimafix also but if the eye doesn`t show considerable change in 5-7 days i would try to get a hold of gentamicyn as this is the hands down best fix for any eye infection i have ever come accross amongst other infections..
Also you need to really do 50% WC every 2-3 days. This isn`t just to keep the readings down but also to wash away any bacteria that is in the water.

Good luck bro

yup mine is definatly getting better. i hope it keeps up, ill just keep up with the water changes and hope it heals up completely
