What things can Stain Acrylic Tanks?

Read.. they love to spit things...

I raised this fish to 11" from a 1.25" fry so I'm well aware of their spitting habits.

That's why I did not buy a glass tank. I thought I had mentioned that fact.

But what about the staining?
Is it okay to use additives like Blackwater Expert? What about malachite green?

I have solvent welded plenty of plastic so I understand about that.

I remember using something that was really yellow-green & I think it was Metro Plus. Some sort of medication.

Usually those things warn you about staining but like I said I've never owned an acrylic tank so I don't know what to expect.

I have had motorcycles with lexan and plexiglass windshields and I certainly prefer the Lexan.

Adding concentrated tannins are fine, and will not stain or discolor acrylic. I've used Seachem Paraguard (minor amount of MG) and see no staining. SInce I always quarantine for 3-6 months any medication is done in QT. I prefer not to medicate the main tank (acrylic), too much water.

If I have to medicate a big tank I just take out most of the water, and dose them.

Yeah but then water changes are a PITA because some medication react with water conditioners, so you have to dechlorinate a few hours before you can redose, and you have to change water more often because of waste output from the current residents.

You are right, plus I've never kept a really big tank. 55s up to now.
For 40 years I never had more than a 30 and a 10.

Sooooo if you have megagallons, medicating the tank would suck.
