not so much into pleco's but stingrays are my passion followed by piranhas and arowanas and arowanas are not happening :irked:

Seeing a L46 pleco might change your mind. Look for zebra plecos on aquabid..look at the pics, and look at the price!

nothing wrong with breeding dogs, but I hate seeing "puppy farms"

I had a 1,600$ parsons russell terrier ***** with champ blood lines, and a 900$ stud of good stock. I only let them breed once per year instead of twice. she would pop out 6-7 little obnoxious crawling, chewing, pooping, tear your house up, escape from pen rodent sized pups.
ALLOT OF WORK and the parsons russell doesnt have the attention span to care greatly for the little things. you have to do it.

I didnt get the dogs just to breed them, but they did make me around 2-3K profit once a year. cold have been more profit but adding the expense of vet bills, food and everything the little monsters destroyed it comes out to 2-3K.

but back to fish, I believe its too much hastle for the average aquaryist to breed for profit, id' just try on the small scale first...

BFE... But Fudge Egypt

You should breed Bulldogs they are lovable and they fetch around 1000 usd per dog. Imagine that 1 batch a year ( 2 batches possible but strains the dog ) + your ordinary job.

Worms! Woorms! Woorms! Grow earthworms. They are low maintenance, its an easy set up and they make good compost, which you can also sell. What you dont sell you can feed to your fish or go fishing!

There's a reason for that. They typically cannot breed naturally or whelp naturally. Therefore, you have to pay for possible shipping of sperm, then AI, then a c-section. On top of that, most have hip dysplasia. Ethical breeders are working to correct that, and the only real way is to only breed dogs with good hips. To know that, you have to have x-rays taken by a Vet and sent off for evaluation from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (there are others, but that's the main one).

^ Bulldogs are alot of trouble, even just as a pet, they can have alot of health problems. I HATE bad breeding. It really makes me PO'd to see a noble breed like a bulldog that is too fat and asthmatic to do what it was originally bred to do.

If you go with dogs, which can be a good idea, please breed ethically, and dont be disappointed if your dog you choose turns out to have problems that should keep it from being bred. So get a pooch that you could like even if you cant breed it.

Bud dogs are much better to breed for money than fish In my opinion.

Well, I didn't read every post in this thread but as someone who owned an Aquarium Shop for 10 years I will say it's not easy, you have to look at how much room you have, how much are you prepared to invest in it, both money and time, who will buy your fish, how long is it going to take to grow out the fry etc. I would suggest doing it for fun and the challenge of getting the fish to breed.
