What to Breed for Income?

Like everyone else said you cannot make a profit off of fish. And most of the fish that he listed are ILLEGAL to own in cali. (I.E. Stingray and Gars).

Even if you could somehow turn a profit of $1500 a month.. you'd still make more flipping burgers full time.. 1500 X 12 = 18000 / yr. 40hrs x $9 per hour weekly x 52 = 18720 :P. You'd still need a real job so you might as well aim to cover your costs like most of us do and have the hobby cost nothing if possible.

put an ad out to local breeders and help them sell....drop ship their fish online or at ur lfs...why work so hard for so little?

yea as everyone said its really hard to even make a profit, try and breed a few for fun dont go at it serious unless you plan on lot of work, hey if your havign fun and making money im sure its better than working at bk

I've always been fascinated by how much mid-sized rare-ish cichlids go for. You can buy a 1" Festae or umbee for $5 and then when it's 6" it sells for $50-$60.

The only reasons for this make sense, however. The smaller fish are easier to house, feed, and in general care for. However, larger fish need more food, bigger housing, some have to be kept alone, they take a long time to sell, etc etc. So, shops charge more for them because of the invisible overhead costs of housing them in the shop. Smaller fish don't have alot of these needs.

Look to inverts to help cover costs. They grow fast, they reproduce fast, and in general don't take up much space. My ramshorn snails bring in quite a bit of money from month to month.
