Looking for a good candidate for a 55 gallon. I want to raise and eventually breed the fish to sell online or trade to the LFS for store credit. I was leaning towards Tanganyikans. Possibly some kind of tropheus or Calvus. Just wanted to see if anyone else had any other ideas. I'm not looking to make a million dollars, but I am looking to make something off the fry.

Kribensis; they sell really easily, breed quickly, and look great.

gday,

i would more so lean towards some of the tangs that could raise up many batches of fry in the same tank.

things like :

-princess cichlid (Neolamprologus brichardi)
-lemon cichlid (Neolamprologus leleupi)
-any of the Julidochromis species

they will pair off and spawn in a colony, raising each batch of fry and allowing them to stay in the same territory. therefore makes it easy as you wont need separate tanks for fry. theres a few types of princess, greenfaces and a few others. the lemon's have a couple of different colour variants also, a yellow and an orange. all are spectacular looking fish, especially in a big colony.

hope this helps.

cheers

I was looking at thai silk flowerhorns. Would a 55 be to small for a pair?

Those are some good suggestions steve. Thank you. Does any one else have ideas?

No flowerhorns in a 55 in my opinion. i thought the above options were excellent. if u dont mind the hassle of having to remove fry and all that then u could try rams, angels , dwarf plecos, scarlet badis ect.
