So right now i have a 55gallon with a fluval 305 and a aqueon hob 155 i have a 4in jardini aro, 3 chiclids about 4in avg., 3 4in bala sharks (that i plan on getting rid of) 8 1.5-2in clown loaches, 1 2in datnoid, 1 columbian shark. Now everyone seems to have enough room at the moment but i plan on buying a 180gallon, so my question is should I buy a fx5 first or the tank first. And this is talking about within the next month or so. I was thinking about getting a tank first but then i realized i would have to buy the filter also for that size, so now i figure i should just run a fx5 on my 55g with the 305 that way it also builds up bb and then switch both canister filters over to the 180. What do you guys think.

Filter first in my opinion. You can do like you said and use it on the 55 and when you get the big tank just switch it over. By doing this you will have your 180 cycled much faster plus over filtration is always good so your 55 will be perfectly filtered.

Getting the tank first means, it will sit till you save up the 200 bucks for the FX5. Then you will have to cycle it. This way you won't also be running extra filtration on your 55, which is okay but why not overfilter if you can.

So in my opinion the advantages of getting the filter first is better than getting the tank first. :)

ya i think im just gonna go with the filter so i dont have to wait with a huge tank, and the erge to just put my fish in the big tank uncycled would be to much

JDM, if your in dublin cali. Let me know. I have a fx5 FS. PM me.

Well that was easy if you get it, lol.

I have my 125 filled with water and a heater but no filter...........:( So I know how you feel, get that FX5 first, lol.

i'm looking for a fluval fx5 also! actually i want 2 for my new 150 gallon

I'm the only guy here that would get the tank first. I would buy the tank and just go crazy on the water changes until you have the cash for the fx5.

Is that even possible, lol. I might have to start cycling my 125 if you can do that. :naughty:

i would have to agree and get the filter first like paker said itll help speed up ur cycling process when u do get ur larger tank and for me at least there is no such thing as over filter i have an ac110 on a 20 gallon feeder tank
