What to do about uneven stand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really don’t care about the look. As long as it will hold and keep the tank safe. This is just a qt/grow out and will only be setup about 6 months.

So you wouldn’t trust this? Lol. I may try to sand it down and see what I can do.

If you wanna shim it, separate the perimeter frame from the leg, and put the shim between the upright 2x4s and the perimeter 2x4s. This way, the gap between the tank and the perimeter isn't there, and you don't have to be bothered with buying a new 2x4. I'm pretty sure this is what pops pops was tellingyou to do as well

Is this what you meant? It helped a lot. You think it’ll hold up?

Do you have any nails/screws holding it there? If not, I’d worry one good bump could send the tank crashing down when the leg slips out of place?

I can screw it in, didn’t know shims needed screwed in place
Most of the time I wouldn’t think to do it/suggest it. But looking at that picture makes me uneasy. Lol
Maybe because my tanks get bumped by kids and dogs, so it wouldn’t stand a chance at my place. And I have the mindset of “better safe then sorry”.

When I look at how youhave your legs attached, it looks like there should be screws going in from the bottom up into the upright part of the legs. I'd figure you would have screws through there.

If its attached some other way, just cut off the extra part of the shim so that it's not hanging out like that.

Chix had it right in #8. You should have bought another length of 2x4 and cut two more corner supports slightly longer than the two you have in the picture in #10. The new slightly longer corner pieces, when affixed, would have lifted the top frame up the few millimetres you needed to fill that gap perfectly.

Two minutes of a task to do the job properly but instead you've botched it. When it comes to heavy fish tanks and the potential damage they can do i'm afraid comments like "I don't care about the look" or "i'll just roll with it" aren't comments that you usually hear.

MrsE88 had it spot on with her "better safe than sorry" attitude.
