So we're starting up another "grow out" tank (that's what you folks call it, right? lol). Fiance and I have decided on a Green Terror and Jack Dempsey for sure. Tank will be 55 gallons and we will be buying all juveniles. Around christmas this year we are going to be upgrading to a 100-125 gallon tank.
What would your suggestions be for this grow out tank?
We have another grow out tank that's also a 55 with two juvie clown loaches. Would we be able to place one of them in the new tank with the GT and JD?
Also have a spotted and striped raphael catfish, and synodontis eupterus in the tank.
Willing to move any of these around if it would be an ok match. But we're really just more interested in another cichlid for our future tank.
Hell, we're addicted I've almost got him talked into going bigger than we planned so if any suggestions push the limit for a 100gal go ahead and give em cause we will make room if we have to! we just want to plan for a really nice setup thanks!:D

how many gren terrors and jack dempseys , I have a 130 gallon and I had to give away my jack this morning :'( because he tore up my gt's face and was on the verge of killing him , they can be relentless and agressive so try to get as big a tank as possible.

i think you should be able to keep the loaches w/ the GT in the 125 and 2 clown loaches in a 55 must seem empty.......i would ditch the cats and get plecos.

Maybe a salvini or texas cichlid. The loaches could go with the cichlids if they are big enough not to be eaten, and even then you have to be cautious. The catfish should do OK with the cichlids, just provide some shelters for them to hide. I wouldnt try to pack the 125 gallon so much either.

we have another grow out tank with two severums that the cats and loaches are in. will probably try moving one of the loaches in with our new fish when we get them and see if it works out.

either way, not too worried about that stuff

any more suggestions for different cichlids?

we were planning to just get one GT and one JD and want another tank mate to go with them...

Salvani? once these guys hit 3-4" though expect a world war of sorts to go down in a 55g.

well hopefully any combos can work out til christmastime... i would hope they're not going to be growing like weeds!

should mention i guess, we have backup tanks so we're not too worried about running into problems. if there are any issues as time goes on, we have the means to separate them if needed or take a troublemaker out.

i suppose a red devil would be out of the question? :grinno:what about a blue acara? Fiance likes the blues and greens, i do too but i also like fish of the warm color variety. oranges and reds and such or heck even fish on the white side! is there anything like that we could pair up with a GT & JD?

and remember, we're probably going to end up with something a little larger than a 125g... i can be pretty persuasive lol my fiance doesn't stand a chance! :headbang2

I got a 1.5" escondido from ken a few weeks ago. She is already pushing 3.5" in that little bit of time and has picked off 1 danio a day for the last 4 days. Be prepared with intense growth if they are well cared for ;)

I have a 5" GT in a 10g quarantine right now and she has put on 1/2" see I bought her 1 week ago. she has half a week left in QT before going in to the 75gallon.

i would keep at least 5-6 loaches together not just one by it's self they are very social creatures........i've always like firemouth they are fiesty w/o being to aggressive. salvini are mean as hell so are texas.......bala sharks make nice tank mates........tinfoil barbs are nice also lil more pushy than the balas.......they are pigs btw no wonder they get 12-14"

i've never kept acara but i heard blue and port acaras are nice

Hmmmmm.... still not sure what we're going to do yet we have another week to think it over. Thanks to everyone for their ideas and suggestions.
If anyone has something they'd like to add or suggest please do! :help2:
