Hey all, I need some help. I want to get some kind of animal for my room that I can actually do something with. I have the fish and the frogs, but was looking for something more personable. If that's even a word.:)

I posted here because it can be just about anything, besides fish of course. Not a dog or a cat, something that can live in my room(tank).

A few exceptions though:
-tank,set-up,enclosure cannot be big, my room is upstairs and not a huge room, but not tiny
-this is a must, I would really like if I could actually hold it to an extent, something I can take out and tame it sort of say so it's friendly

If there isn't anything that comes to mind to anyone, I can get a mouse/hamster for free so that would do.I just want something I can actually take out for a little while at least, compared to just staring at it. Thanks.:)

i have rats and they are phenomenal pets. i've heard them accurately likened to tiny dogs on many occasions, as you can teach them tricks, litterbox train them to some extent, they beg for food, know their names/come when you call them, etc (as long as you take the time to train them, of course). they do best in same-sex groups of 2 or more, as they are very social animals, and you'd need to keep them in a wire cage as tanks will trap the heavy ammonia and damage their lungs, but they are wonderful, i love the girls that i have.

Remember, try and get something that doesnt smell. small room + stinky poopoo rats = No Va J J.

edit/ I've had many rats. they make great pets. Try a chinchilla. They dont smell horrible, you can hold them, and the ladies are more inclined to like them.

:) rats are not as stinky as you'd think; you can smell them, but i've had hamsters and countless other small rodents, and they smell more of sweet than like pee. i use fleece blankets instead of bedding, so every other day or so i shake the poops that missed the litter box out, vacuum them all up, and change the bedding, and it's instant fresh air. :)

How big of a tank? Ball pythons can be tamed easily and fit in a 40 gal breeder tank for life. Bearded dragons can almost be like dogs but they need a bit more room then the ball pythons. Lepord geckos are also great and can do fine in a 20 gal long aquarium. None of these animals have a bad smell.

I dont know guys, I like reptiles and all, I've had my fare share, but he's looking for something personable, that he can handle and "do something with". I'm sorry to say....but....reptiles are boring..

you know what i just realized would be pretty sick? a desert enclosure for chillas like they have at the zoo.. throw in some lunar lights and that'd be so entertaining.. i'm sure thats not what youre looking for, but they'd do great in a homemade enclosure too.

the cool thing is that they need some decent space, but they love ledges so you could keep the floorspace pretty small and make it taller. i don't own one anymore, but used to have one, and he was one of the coolest and most personable animals i've had. my enclosure was about 2.5 feet long by 1.5 feet wide by 2.5-3 feet high at most, and that was more than enough space for Rocky.

pretty freekin smart for a varmint:
