What to do when unsure about what to keep?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you both, I appreciate that. BTW - it's been a lot of years, but I kept Steatocranus casuarius way back, and was very fond of them. What an interesting fish!

Whichever direction you decide to take, good luck with it.

Hey guys,
Just thought I would update this thread.
Since This thread was created I got my first house.
I also got a puppy that I rescued from a family who thought their 15 year old daughter couldn’t care for him adequately.

Now hes 7 months old and over 100 lbs of goof.

I only brought the one aquarium with me, a 75g with 40g sump. And it is currently still empty.

I have flip flopped on so many different options and at this point have considered just about everything.
I am still having trouble finding that fish. The one that make sure you want to set up a tank.

When I was younger it’s was cichlids, then when I had my 225g it was monsters.

I have been to fish stores to browse, watched a lot of YouTube videos and it seems that I could easily set up 20 tanks, but it’s hard to narrow down to just one idea.

With oscars, Mayan Cichlid, flowerhorn etc for me i saw those fish and I knew I wanted to keep them. Not all at the same time obviously.

As for my fiancé, the only fish Shen showed any interest in was discus an even then irbid was just a mild interest.
It’s safe to say I’ll have to make My own choice lol.

Back to square one

Thank you for the update. Read through your entire thread.

I too am from Alberta (Edmonton), it’s nice to see so many Albertians here.

I noticed you were looking at cold water species and getting back to basics. Have you considered some of the following:

paradise fish
Weather loach
Whit cloud minnows (I love these, they look so good swimming in groups in planted tanks)
Asian stone fish
Rainbow shiners
Hill stream loaches
Least killies
Empire gudgeon
Galaxy rasbora
Amano shrimp
Crayfish

In sure you’ve looked at most of these maybe re-visit them, one might just speak to you this time.

You could make an interesting tank with some of these (not all lol)

look forward to updates!

Back to square one

I'm in the same boat, moved house and 10 months later still no tank set up.
It's cool though, I'm still waiting for the full inspiration light bulb moment (also time and $ but that's always short)
you will know when you aren't just thinking about a set up but "planning" it and then it will be time for action.
