I've seen you here before and thought you were well versed on fish. Since you wanted to breed them it sounded like you already had them

I did not intend to be an *** which is why I included the size of mine(just in case).

...peace.

pesonally i would put a bunch of inverts in it and plant it. inverts like

crabs, shrimp, 1-2 african dwarf frogs, 5 guppies! LOL it sounds funny but its really fun to get little tanks and put a bunch of odd fishin it. it makes it look like a full eosystem.

Ha I’d personally go with the Shellie tank myself as they are much easier to handle, but if you’re bent on the planted tank, I’m all for ya! Planted tanks are great, but they do get pricey. Even for a small 10 like yours. Unless you want relatively lame plants like java ferns or java moss, you’re going to need to dish out some cashola. First off you’ll need at least, I’d say 30 watts (you’ll probably get differing views on this, but I currently have 30 and it’s not that bad) on that thing, preferably of the 6500-8000K variety. Also, with that much light you’ll need CO2 injection via CO2 tank or DIY or tablets or liquid injection (I use liquid injection with Excel, but I have only low light plants. Also, you’ll to carefully monitor the different levels of pH, GH, iron, CO2, and a bunch of other things. Planted tanks also usually inhibit the act of gravel vacumming, which means messy fish are a no-no. Cardinals aren’t too messy as I’ve learned (I’ve also learned pimafix manages to kill them in less than 12 hours =/ ). Oh, and one more thing… water current must be very low, but there still should be a current. In my tank, I’m using a sponge filter for a 20 gallon tank and the bubbles seem to create just enough current where the leaves sway from side to side just the littlest bit. Anyways, I’d like to end my long note with thumbs up good luck and a “I’d do my research on shellies cause they’re awesome! lol
