what to do with a 1G

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You will probably get plenty of heat from the light.

How about for housing ghost shrimp. Since it has java moss already in it, you might only have to buy shrimp once :) When they breed, the young need the moss to hide from the adults. (1g is actually too small to breed them).

I picked up two one gallon hex tanks that I use as small hospital tanks or dip tanks. They also make great temp housing. I am currently housing my snails in one of them. Keep a sponge filter alive in your sump or wet/dry until you need it.

ghost shrimp don't sound like a bad idea. how many could I fit?
also, is there any commercially avalible filter that could fit on there?

one of mine came with a ugf. The other I am running with an air stone. I clean that one with a 3/8" vynil tube with a nylon pipe stuffed inside to make it rigid. (I use it for spot cleaning all of my tanks). When I am done cleaning the tank, I end up with a 50% water change.

I would get a small sponge filter for it. Cleaning is easy. Just take it to the kitchen and squeeze it out and rinse it in tap water or old tank water. I know I will never hear the end of the tap water comment but it works for me without any ammonia spikes.

mine did come with what seems to be a UGF, but it looks incomplete, as there is no connection points for the air supply, ect.

Azoo makes what they call the Palm filter that will work for you. DRS carries them cheap.

Shrimp sound like a plan. How about 2 bamboo shrimp? Supplement their diet with fry food ? 1 gallon is so small....

Howdy,

I think shrimp are about all you can use a 1 gal for. Even apple or ramshorn snails cause too much of a bioload. You could use a tiny sponge filter...
