One of my favorite tanks I've ever done was a 20 high set up as cheap as possible with the cheapest fish possible. Decorations were about $10 worth of rocks and a nifty piece of driftwood I've had lying around for a while that doesn't really fit in any other tanks.
I filled it with different types of danios (zebra, leopard, longfin, albino, and combinations where available), red cherry barbs, harlequin & porkchop rasboras (which schooled together), and a pictus cat. Other occasional things would make their way in from time to time, too. It was originally for breeding platties to use as feeders, then I ended up adding more things as they caught my eye.
I don't have any pics of it very far in, but here it was a couple months into the process.
Eventually that entire hunk of driftwood was covered in java moss and java fern, and the anubias down in the corner took off and pretty much filled that corner. It also ended up with at least twice as many fish.
Of course, that was until I put a baby jack dempsey who was being harassed in it until I could find a place to put another tank for him. He and the pictus were the only fish in there after about two days. I also ended up getting rid of the dempsey soon after, and the tank has since been drained. I'd love to set it up again at some point, but I'm looking to move when I graduate in May, and I'm not sure I could take 10 aquariums with me. That, and a 7 month old puppy has my hands pretty full!
