What to do with a fish u dont want?

Pet stores down here wont take fish back they say its illegal due to they may have a disease or something.

That's pretty much BS. It's not illegal. The lfs simply doesn't want the fish or to deal with your friend.

Contact a local fish club/society. All the clubs I've belonged to (including those in FL) readily helped people find new homes for their unwanted fish.

What I'm assuming the store employee meant, was that it would be against store policy. The addition of peoples' pet fish into their tanks can be serious sometimes if the fish is indeed diseased. In addition, I work at one of the major pet store chains, and I know that even though they cant take fish back to the actual store, there are frequently individual employees that will take a homeless fish and give it a good place....(Like Me). I agree that the effort should be made to place an add on craigslist or some other publication to try to find a good home for the fish, tell him to remember that fish are living creatures too. It would be like his parents saying "You are too aggressive and beat up your brothers too much.", then they unceremoniously drown him in the pool or something.

If all else fails, buy another tank yourself and put the Oscar in it!!!

Well try your best to give it away, Someone will probably take it, Your friend should really think twice about getting any other fish he may "get sick of" just for the fishes sake. Never flush a live fish. Ever.

If ur really desperate find a Asian fish store. I'm asian and i go to heaps of em around aus and they'll take anything for free. If u can find one where u live go ask em. Look up ur phone directory and look for aquariums. Ask ur friend to call up and ask. Theres gonna be at least one store witch will take him in. I've traded heaps of fish to stores. People do take them.
