Here is the my dilemma I have a 125 currently very well filtered with one FX5 and two 406's. The tank will shortly be heavily stocked. I have a almost brand new C-530 sitting here iin the box. Here is my question would you leave the 530 in the box and save on the electric or would you fill it with Bio Media and realy filter the heck out of the 125? OK so don't laugh!!:nilly:. lol

At some point your just wasting money. I would wait and see how the filters run with whatever stock your getting and add more if necesarry.

Thanks folks you just confirmed what I had alraedy been thinking I'm sure you hit a point where your just burning electricity.

LoL!!! Thats all I need is more tanks. I had bought one then got another as a gift then had a issue with one so Marineland sent me another one and told me to keep the old one (which was almost new) for parts which still runs just is pulling in air somewhere. So I have three almost new filters sitting in a box. To sell them used even though they are Marinelands 530's you can get a new Aquatop for like $125.00 so there worth more to me as for what I have not figured that out yet?:nilly:

I would use it to polish. Remove the polishing pads from your other filters leaving only mechanical, add more bio and fill the 530 with mechanical and polishing media. I do like the idea of a big bio beast though.
Actually, I have resisted the temptation many times to sell off unused big items like filters and heaters, return pumps and powerheads only to need them when unexpected things happen. It is a lot easier to set up a hospital tank with good efficient equipment rather than with some junk you scavenged from the junk drawer...just sayin.

When I told the family I wanted aquarium stuff for my holidays, IE birthdays etc as I was saving money for stuff, well guess what...I Got Stuff!! Still not my Eheim but I got Stuff. Three 530's, 1 FX5, two 406's and a few Hob's. So I'm using the Fluvals as I like the tank connections better and the 406's use allot less electric. The 530's are nice filters tons of room inside the things and they push some water but here they design the filter nice and send you two pieces of S$$$ for input and output makes no sense. I may add one more tank for grow out at some point but where I live what do I do with all the babies once I get them(thus far I just let them fend for themselves)??? In this area people think fish are in lakes or kept in fishbowls I was told my Yellow Labs where pretty Yellow Goldfish!!!! And as I say all the time it's 100 miles to the Fish Store.

why not run it in line to the fx5? the fx5 should have the power to feed it, and push the water from the spare into the tank :)

You wont increase power used just increase filtration. Id stock it with mech or bio. and the fx5 with which ever way you dont go. I.E fx5 full fo mech and spare full of bio.

I dont know that just seems to smart way for me, you get to use it and you dont add power/ waste money. :)
