I don't mean to sound so ignorant but I have a single firebelly newt I don't know what to do with!
We had several (more like 10+) in a tank at the LFS but the owner also keeps his fiddler, red thai, etc crabs in there.. Well, they killed off the newts.
I thought they were all gone but found one trying to climb up the glass to escape. His tail is chewed up (healing) and he is pretty thin.

Um, advice?
I've never dealt with newts or salamanders before. I moved him to a "kritter keeper" that is very small, been changing out the water every day with that of his former tank. I'm giving him "newt & salamander pellets" plus tiny crickets but he doesn't seem to eat any of them. He's got a rock and driftwood to get out of the water.. Any other suggestions until I figure out how to fit a 10 or 20g newt tank in?

when I had newts, I kept them in a 20 long and kept guppies with them that bred enough to stabilized the ones that got eaten

you need to have a place for them to come out of the water, and if your having problems with them eating you should probably get something that will show them what to eat and is still small enough for them to eat.

I've noticed that with stubborn pets that don't want to eat, they will eat what others eat. which if you have enough cover for new guppies to grow, guppies work well IME

He wouldn't eat bloodworms when I offered but he has a new home :)
They keep salamanders and hermit crabs and felt sorry for him, said they have a home (tank) that would be perfect for him.

There are a ton of guppies that were with the newts for a long time (when there were about 12 of them) and the guppies just bred and bred and bred. I guess they don't eat very many?
Thanks though, I guess in the future I'll try giving them a friend to eat with.

I give my newt small cut peices of earth worms.
