That is a perfect bichir tank. Have your ever kept them ? Most of them are laid back and do really well in a group. I wouldnt keep them with some of the more aggressive ca's but i have a few with pearsei and it works out well. In that tank i would do a few lower jaw species and some laid back cichlids.

is your punchbag mounted on the ceiling?
Might be an irrelevant point, but mine used to shake the room about a bit when it got hit; it'd be at the back of my mind hoping it wasn't shaking the tank too much etc

The punchbags free standing at the opposite end of the room so shouldn't be an issue.
I haven't kept birchers but do like the look. I had rope fish in with the malawi for a while and enjoyed them. Obviously much smaller.
Going to look up some snake head vids.
