What to do with my lady err...male dovii?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

Now that I know that my dovii is a he and can't go in my 210 with my male, should I

  • take him back to the LFS because he is a dovii and will eventually go crazy on my other fish

  • keep him in my 240 in the hopes he will be the rare "community" dovii

whats the difference between a nic and a rican?

I guess Nics tend to be more blue and more slender in shape like the one in my avatar. I have heard the Costa Ricans are thicker bodied but less blue and even with some red.

personally i think he will be fine in your community for a long time. if you end up getting really attached, and it starts ripping into your other fish, then you can make your descion on whether to keep him or not. you never know you might end up liking it more than your other male because of raising it from young, and give him a tank of his own.

just play it by ear...

Dovii only come from 2 countries? That seems unlikely.

Damn I just tied it up to 11 - 11. Sorry, I'd bring it back. Wouldn't wanna lose any of those good looking fish you have now.

True. I'll tell you right now at the first sign of fin damage by him or aggression that is more than the others can handle, he is instantly moved into my spare 20 long and a trip to the LFS is happening.

You didn't buy your dovii as a costa rican or a nic so it very well could be a mix. Sure there are people who would keep the variations separate but a TR dovii is a TR dovii unless you buy it with that extra special information - either the variant itself or breeder info so you could find out for yourself, that's how you would "know". Everything else is just guessing.
Doesn't make much of a different anyway, it's a good looking fish.

Good point.

I evened it to 13-13 i would keep him and see how goes.

This is close. I am leaning toward seeing how it goes. I would be pretty sweet if he was raised with other fish and it worked. However, in the more likely scenerio that he snaps my LFS will take him, or one of the bay area members may get a cheap or even free dovii. I guess of all of the explanations I have seen, the give it a shot one has the lease downside. As long as it doesn't happen so fast that he kills everyone.
