it happened. my prized lungfish has now passed away. much worse is i dont know why he died. i came home to a dead fish. sad, but this isnt something id want to feel bad about forever..i guess. anyway, what should i do to with it now? i really dont want to bury it, doing that seems like a waste at this point.btw, its 26 inches long, so yeah, im gonna need a big container.comments and advice are appreciated, a lot.

Freeze it for now till you decide..could get its skeleton and mount it? :D

I've preserved a few of my smaller fish using alcohol. Now they still get to be used as tools for wildlife education.

Sorry about your loss bro.

thanks guys, i appreciate it. :D

I would try putting it in a closed animal trap or some sort of cage and let the bugs have at it for awhile until you're left with just a skeleton. the cage will keep out larger scavengers from removing pieces. lungfish have very cool skulls!

If you wish to preserve it in alcohol, use the highest percentage of rubbing alcohol that you can get, and buy twice as much as you'll need to fill the container because you'll need to replace after a little while because the first batch of alcohol will turn yellow after a little bit as stuff leaches out of the body (poking a few small holes in it will speed up the process).

x2 if the goal is to reduce it down to the skeleton. Be sure to put it in an open-topped box in order to keep the bones together.
