Does anyone have any tips on what to do with Old Aquariums?

I have a 150G. It's 2x4. like 32" deep. So I can't reach the bottom.

I want to use it. But I'm not mobile enough to reseal it myself and can't find anyone in my area who would do the work for me. My other option would be to sell it, but I'm having trouble finding people to buy the aquarium which may not hold water?

So I think I'm stuck with a glass aquarium. At what point do you cut your losses and take it to the dump?

Selling is always an option, just let people know it will need to be resealed. I reseal all used tanks I buy. Would be a shame to waste a tank like that. Only time to scrap a tank is when it's cracked imo.

Do you have any local fish clubs? If you don't know ask around at lfs to see if anyone there knows. I'm thinking you might be able to find someone to help you out.
When you say "mobile" are you disabled in some way? Not that it's my business but just thinking if I knew you needed help and were in my area /part of my club I'd give you a hand if it was something in my wheel house. I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find someone. Other then that if you absolutely can't do anything with it put it out in the trash someone will pick it up.

That's not even such an easy job. I've got one I want to get rid of, can't really move it ourselves, I've put it up for sale on one facebook group with no bites. Same situation. Might not hold water, can't get rid of it.

Agreed, 32 inches is a deep and awkward reach to work inside of. If your mobility issues prevent sealing it up as is, perhaps you could carefully disassemble it by cutting all the seams with a razor knife. Then cut the four vertical sides down to a more manageable height...15 inches, 18 inches, whatever you are comfortable with...and then re-build a "new" tank for yourself. If you aren't confident in your glass-cutting skills, any glass shop would be able to do it quickly and cheaply.

You will have less water volume, an easier time working inside for maintenance, and the same footprint as the original tank so still a very useable aquarium. Depending upon the amount you cut off, you might have enough scraps to create a lid for this tank, or even to build up one or two smaller tanks for quarantine or other purposes.

Man, that would be a great tank for growing some tall-ass angels after a re-seal. If you were in central AR and willing to sell cheap. ..but you most likely don't so the idea of having a glass shop take a little off the top sounds like a good one.

Fishman Dave Fishman Dave took my old 180g. He even collected it. Just drop him a PM and he will come and get it.

How long do you think it will take you to get to Ontario and back to blighty Dave? Lol.

Hahaha, thanks, maybe a little far to go.
Got to admit that if someone was getting rid of a glass tank in my area (up to 1hr drive) then I’d go pick it up (even ones with a cracked pane) as tanks are getting really expensive now (and I am a tight Yorkshireman!)

I would expect there must be someone in your area looking for something similar, it’s just the old problem of connecting the A to the B and for that I have no solution I am afraid other than listing it on here and a notice in local store windows, etc.
of course any item is only worth what someone else is willing to pay even if you find them but it’s gotta be worth something to someone.
