What to do with this 53 gallon tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Short bodied flowerhorn. a regular flowerhorn could work but it would be pushing it since it is only 30 inches long...

Personally i would go a pair of blue eyes (cryptoheros cutteri) they are a hugely underrated fish. They will reed regularly and are quite peaceful for Americans, they don't grow to large and males are beautiful.

My pair is in a 50 with some platys are they are doing fine.

It's like a little ecosystem right in my house :3

I have seen some cutteri with good color. Same with sajica..panamesis would be good, I like the idea of colorful live bearers, swordtails would be great

Looked into the Cryptoheros family and they all look really nice, since my tank isn't very wide would it be a good idea to stock it with some smaller dither fish or would they just get mauled? One of the reasons I looked towards Angelfish is that they are very peaceful and seem to do well with most dithers. I thought this would make the tank seem more alive.

The Sajica,Septemfasciatus and Panamensis are the best looking ones. Think I could go with some dithers with a pair of one of these species in the tank? I liked the Swordtail idea.

Are there any other 5-4 inch cichlids that could fit into the tank? Preferably with tankmates. Turns out I can't get ahold of a Cryptoheros Septemfasciatus, which is the one I liked the most.

blood parrots, firemouths, jewl cichlids(afrian but simaler to americans),ect there are lots of them...

I know they are not CA/SA but I'd put a pair of buffaloheads (Steatocranus casuarius) would be an interesting little cichlid, and one not too many people keep

Well I guess I didn't narrow it down properly. Could I keep convicts in the tank? As the only inhabitants or would the male abuse the female too much in such a small tank?

Hmm those look interesting Cich I really like those Buffaloheads. Looked at the Brichardi when my LFS got them, I didn't have a tank for them then however. Still would Convicts work in this tank?
