So I got a good deal for 9 red head geophagus tapojos... they are coming in at 2.5-3 inches and will go straight into a 29 gallon quaruntine tank. I'll have to move other stock around in order to get these guys a tank but in the meantime they will be in the 29. How long do you guys think I can keep them in there for before all hell breaks loose? lol

Also I've read so many diff temps for these guys. I know they do require extra oxygen but what temp would you recommend

At that size they'll probably be ok aggression wise for a little bit, but I'm not sure how that will work with the bio. 9 is quite high for 29.

You are currently at 3.2 gallons of space per fish at that size.

2x75% water changes a week?

The stock in my 75 gallon is

11 neon tetras
9 Peppered cories
7 rummy nose tetras
6 otos
4 Bolivian rams
3 zebra angels
1 blue phantom pleco
3 snails

Maybe move the neon tetras, rummy nose tetras, Otos and blue phantom pleco out and add in the 9 geos?

That might work short term, just keep an eye on your nitrates.

Got any pics of the little guys? What kind of tank setup are you planning?

Grats on the fish!

Java fern helps a little for nitrates but not much. Pothos helps for sure. Right now the water change schedule is %65-%70 a week.

No pics yet since I just ordered them today, just trying to get everything organized before they arrive.

As far as future plans go... the geos will have a 180.

What do you guys think for this stock in the 75 for their grow out.

9 red head geophagus
9 Peppered cories
4 Bolivian rams
3 zebra angels
3 snails

I could do 2 50% water changes a week

Filtration is ehiem 2217, aquaclear 110 and penguin biowheel 350

with that WC schedule I doubt you'll have any problems, for growout at least since they will be upgraded anyway
