Sorry to hear about that, but on the upside as long as they settle in good and are healthy you should be good.

I personally like to get fish small anyway. I find it fascinating seeing them evolve and color up as they grow. It's also good because you know they've been grown out in good conditions for the most part of their lifes.

I prefer that as well but with their slow growth rates I was hoping to have a jump start so they can keep up with other cichlid grow rates in the tank.
 
That size wouldn't be a problem for me either, gives you a grace period before needing to move them to a larger tank, and
to me, these and some dithers would be better off without other cichlid tank mates.
The Geophagines, a large shoal of tetras, and an equally large shoal of cory's would be a great display i a 6 ft tank.
