He's eating and growing, that's good. I'd try night crawlers, hand or tong fed.(Might be cheaper for you.) Then try to work with other food's.

I feed mine once a day, occasionally skipping a day.

Hand feeding is a personal choice. Mine is handfed, and he hesitates to eat unless I'm handfeeding him. Double-edged sword here. Hand feeding is rewarding in it's own rite, but always HAVING to handfeed can get to be a PITA.
