I have a baby kamfa mix flowerhorn and I would like to offer him the best possible diet. I just want some advice on what types and brands of food to feed him so that he will grow up to be nice and colorful. I am not necessarily interested in trying to enhance his hump just the color. Thanks in advance

A mixture of foods is always best. Find a good staple pellet that you are comfortable with and supplement it with krill, worms, etc. The designer flowerhorn foods work really well but they can get really pricey. I am currently feeding mine Hikari sinking Carnivore pellets but will be switching to Hikari Cichlid Bio Gold+ supplemented with Ken's Krill pellets and some earth worms and brine shrimp.

Like stated a good variety works the best, mine have always eaten nls, hikari with krill and frozen food thrown in as treats

I have always feed mine Grand Sumo,Carnivore delight, freeze dried blood worms,Freeze dried shrimp, shrimp pellets, diced up tilapia fillets,Cichlid bio gold and beef heart. If there real small 1.5" or less I have always liked brine shrimp and Tetra BettaMin tropical Medley cause it has min 48% protein and 10% fat with vitamin c and emega-3 fatty acids. Another good 1 for young FH is the TetraMin select-a-food cause it has high protein fat and fiber and the price ain't bad at $8 for 3 different foods in 1 container.

The problem with tetra foods is the most of the protein comes from non-preferred sources. You want a food that has better quality than that if you want your fish to have a longer and healthier life.

How about molly fry? I have 10 cremecicle lyre tail molly fry that will eventually get big enough to start breeding. Could I feed him mollies if I grow them myself?

That would be perfect, free healthy feeders are always a good option.

You could but I don't recommend feeders for FH. As a treat? Sure. But you should still feed it pellets as the main diet. If you want cheap but still pretty good quality fish food, look at Ken's Fish food. You can get a half pound bag for $6.95 or less. Some of it is really good quality especially for the price. You can also order really good Hikari pellets and NLS from there as well as Xtreme foods.

Yeah the feeders would just be used as a snack not a staple.

I feed my FH the following pellets...

He also gets fruits and veggies, frozen fish and bloodworms three times a week and homemade gel food.
