What to Feed Giant Danio Fry?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do you guys think it'd be alright if I put the 12 fry (yeah there's 12 now apparently :)) in a marineland hang-on breeder box (probably like 0.75G) without aeration as long as I did daily water changes on it? I don't think he fry need that much air at their size and I'd gladly aerate it but the pump for that system is pretty much maxed out on lines and consequently air output per line, if I added another line there wouldn't be enough pressure to keep the sponge filters going for those tanks. I think in that it would be easier to change water, easier to see and account for all the fry, easier to feed them, and easier to watch growth patterns. But I don't want them to die from lack of air so I'll leave it up to you breeders whether it's a good idea or I should just leave them in their plastic container.

I'm by no means an expert on this, but my guppy fry have been in a breeder net hanging in the adults tank their entire life thus far. its probably about .75g and there are 15-20 fry in there currently, and they do great. the water from the main tank is aerated with a sponge filter so they have plenty of O2 just from that.

also, they ate hikari first bites for about a week, then theyve been on hand crushed flake ever since. that hikari is a powder, your fry would definitely be able to eat it :D

Yes however my breeder box hangs on the outside of the tank and there is no transfer of water between in it and the water inside the tank which is why I worry.

Do you have any t-valve's on hand, just tap into the sponge from main tank, personally wouldn't take any chance of fry Danio's without any air flow.

No unfortuanely i don't. I need to buy a pack of them in bulk because I'm always in need of one when I don't have them.

Just change out water from breeder box out with main tank, and keep water levei in breeder box slightly low for air until you get the t-valves.

Update:

Fry are doing good, all 21 of them, and I'm getting a fairly steady new supply of them from the parents :). They're eating well on crushed up growth formula flake mixed with crushed up Blackworm flake. Not considerable growth but they're bigger than when I got them out of the tank, at about 0.25-0.33" now.
