how do you prepare the cucumber? does has to be cooked or anything?

If using slices, plant weights or veggie clip works well. For bigger pieces, rubberband to a rock, weigh down with fork, or use a skewer.

I meant focus on high fiber diet as balas normally are herbivorous but proteins can be provided by feeding them occasionally bloodworms or try sinking pellets with crude protein of 38%.

So bala sharks cannot be placed in planted aquariums?

they love bloodworms but keep them on a varied diet like everyone else is saying...and ill give you a heeded piece of cautioned advice...these sharks are very sensitive to water temp, when you are doing water changes do them frequently but less water...around 30% each time and make sure that its close to the tank temp before you change it...iv had some larger balas go belly up on a 40% water change for almost no reason....they are very sensitive..Goodluck! =)

Well my Bala is pretty damm though, I have two in my tank, and a bit over then a week ago found one of them that was stuck in one of the wholes that one of my rocks has, at first glance I thought he was dead, so I stuck my hand in there and to my suprize he is very much alive and start to thrash around, so I as gently as I can try to pull him out with no luck tried to push him out still no luck, so by this time I'm freaking out.

I finaly get him out by squeezing his front and back and pushed once again and he became free....he was scraped up pretty bad top and bottom and his right front fin was 80% gone...so now more then a weeks passed and all them white scrapes are all getting much darker and looks better.

He was the bully to the other Bala and still is...I'm guessing he was chasing the other Bala one when though the whole the other didn't make it and wedged him self in there...

I'm just glad he is okay.

I used stress coat and melafix..

Then I was informed by one of the member here that I could of added some aquarium salt to help the speedy recovery.

I have a 9" Bala, this fish has been through hell and back and has made it.He eats any and everything!!Raw shrimp,Scallops,Earthworms, lettuce, crushed peas, cucumber, zucchini etc...just a real easy fish to keep in my opinion.
