What to feed my new Dogface?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well now i may have a set back. when i got home from school after posting this the poor guy had gotten his cheek sucked into where the powerhead and undergravel filter meet! i guess all that extra skin that helps him to puff up was the bane of his existence this time. He was swimming around fine after i got him loose but this morning he wasn't swimming too much. he pretty much was just resting on the ground and wouldn't take any food. :(

You shouldn't be using an UGF for SW. Actually no one uses them for FW anymore either.

I'd get that poor fellow into QT. Did you read all those links I gave you? What are your water parameters now? How big is his tank?

UGF's aren't that bad... but I personally dislike them...

so how messy does this feeding your puffers earthworms get? cause they cause a little bit of a mess with just mealworms

Most anything a puffer is fed is gonna be messy. Not too many mealworms please. The outer skin (chiton) is extremely difficult for a puffer to digest.

yeah im not doing it often, only gave my two GSP one each which was very hard to do by the way since the bigger GSP ate it very quick and wanted the other one that my other GSP had. it was only a treat basically because my roommate picked some up for the leopard gecko since the pet store was out of large crickets.

i actually lost the puffer. i guess the whole thing stressed him out too much.. :(

but why wouldn't i want to use a UGF for salt. I was just assuming it would help with the biological filter of the sand.

The sand is just going to clog the plates. UGF really is old school filtration. Have you ever seen all the crap under them? It's like sweeping dirt under a rug-it's still there.
