This is why native fishkeeping is so much more fun that tropicals. There are not tons of books on centrarcidae like there are for cichlids, and the books on catfish leave out all the natives, with the possible exception of the channel cat.
I too, have kept madtoms in a lower current setting. It was also at a higher temp then the typical mountain stream. They seemed to be just fine and happy, but then again, I no longer have them, so that say's something too, doesn't it?

What kind and how long did you keep them for? This summer after we move Im going to upgrade to a 125g Missouri steam biotype tank with Checkered madtoms, Missouri Longear and Striped shiners.

I beleive they were slender madtoms, and I kept them for about a year and a half, and then they passed one by one. Had 3 of them in a twenty long with lots of rocks and what not. a few tasselated darters too, but they stayed around a little longer. It was a long time ago, I don't remember anything specific about their passing, so it may just have been old age, or other natural causes.
