What to go with my sev?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I just think Tiger barbs are just too much pf an obvious choice. I really like barbs though because they are all so colorful, quick, and hardy. Also the danios at my LFS are the ugly longfinned ones and they wouldn't go so well with my sev I don't think. Anything out there that cleans up algea really nice. I have not had a pleco in the tank for over a year but I ocasionally get some algea. I would like to add some darker colors to my tank because the sev is bright yellow and red and the sand is white. Hopefully that helps you out a bit more. Sorry I am being such a pain in the *** but I really want to do this right the first time and not waist all that money.

your not being a pain in the ***........................yet.................. most barbs get to big for a a 55g other than oddesy barbs and tiger barbs. ummmmm how about a nice shoal of 12 corys they will also breed in that number. do you want another cichlid? cos i have plenty of ideas for that.

Bushynose pleco, eats lots of algea, is big enough not to be eaten by the sev, and is dark in color. Also hails from SA. You could go with rams, or Apistos, they are dwarf cichlids that would go with the sevs, @ least I think they should be alright with the sev, never seen a sev over 5" in real life....... If it's mouth is anything like a discus at that size, the rams and apistos would be great.

Yea his mouth is really small. He can't even eat a whole salad shrimp. I never even thought about doin apistos and rams. I think that would be really cool. What apistos do you guys think would be big enough. Any that grow over about 2" and are pretty deep bodied? That is a really cool idea. You think they would breed?

WTF sevs have large mouths, an 8" sev can easily eat aguppy whole. mine eat whole shrimp. i would not go with the small cichlids as even if he does not eat them the introduction of another cichlid small or big to HIS teritory is not going to go down very well. if you want cichlids u need fast and meaner ones, such as:
convicts, jade eyes, those types small but adgile. ive kept a breeding pair of 8" sevs with a breeding pair of 3" convicts and each just picked a end of the tank and stayed out of harms ways. so a single convict would be ok or lots of females. its up to you. just make sure your tank has lots of hiding spots for the smaller fish to get away from the severum, if he decides to turn on them.

Well compared to all my other fish my sev has a small mouth. Of course he can eat a guppie it is an 8" fish. But his mouth is not huge by any standard. I think I might just have to try the apistos just because he is a really passive fish and they are small and stuff. If anybody else advises strongly against this though I guess I am just going to have to pass up.

Well today my mom fogged my house with flea bombs or something like that. I came home from work and my pike was dead. The other fish are doing fine though. I think I have decided on either emperor or congo tetras. Maybe buenes aires tetras. I am sad that my pike died. He was a good fish.

gold or paradise gouramis are very colorful and your sev will prob just ignore them.
