Hi all!!

I am wondering what I could keep with my Texan (~8 or 9 inches) that could hold its own in my 120. I have some smaller faster fish (3 young Balas (4 "), and 1 young Apollo shark (4") ) that can avoid the Texan, although he doesn't really bother with them much at all. I think the smaller fish don't really interest him enough.

My concern is that with a bigger fish he will definitely be interested in a little battling, so I want something that won't get torn apart. So in your opinion what is a good similar sized fish to live with the above mentioned fish (prefer a red or blue color)??

Thanks!!

Texas cichlids are big time bullies even though they lack speed and power. In that sized tank he is bound to fight another equal sized cichlid. As far as another fish he could bully but not kill I reccomend an equal sized jack dempsey.

similar sized fish to go in with a texas in a 120g? like gts said, jack dempsey would be your only hope, and the fact of the matter is texas are a good deal larger than JDs anyway.

You stick anything else in there, and there's too high of a chance that either the texas kills it or it kills the texas. even the JD is not a sure bet, but its a better bet since its a smaller fish.

here is my tex,
he's about 11 inchs

he's like a swimming brick...
he has never been aggressive to anyone
actually the aro picks on him
:screwy:

Yeah I was thinking of finding a large JD. That's the first fish that comes to mind. It seems that it's the only fish that may have a fighting chance. My Texan doesn't really seem too bad so far though. Keeping another equal sized fish in there will be the real test....

How about large bottom feeders. Have any of you found that Texans will pick on large catfish??

my texas somtimes will flare at my rtc , but usually leads to nothing

my texas and all my other aggressive cichlids generally leave small/midsized pimelodid cats and synodontis cats alone. I think one or two of such fish would do well in your tank.

Nice tank, bluedempsey... Wish I could squeeze in a big RTC and aro, but the tank budget's going elsewhere lately...

This is good stuff to hear. My LFS has an adult mid sized synodontis in a tank with some CA's now. It is about 6", and I was really hoping to add him into the tank. Thanks for the info!
