What to go with Texan in 120??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I added a large JD (about 8", slightly smaller than my Texan) and a large (6") Featherfin Synodontis.

My Texan initially beat up on the JD quite a bit, the Jack didn't even fight back, he just ran. However now they seem to have come to some peace. The JD avoids the Texan, and occupies the space farthest away from the Texan's home (a large rock cave in one of the corners of my tank).

One interesting thing to note though, the Featherfin beat up on the Texan a bit. He has chased the Texan out of his home a few times even to the point of following him across the tank to let him know who is boss. The Featherfin doesn't bother the Jack at all, and sometimes they even hang out together, but he definitely does not like the Texan. I really did not expect the Syno to be the new boss of the tank...

This happens all time with texas cichlids. They are bossy and aggresive until the other fish fights back then they will almost always back down.

try a uro ! my texas bullies the hell out of my jd's

Well it seems that the JD and the Texas have come to an understanding. The Texas is definitely the boss. I have still not seen the JD fight back at all. But the Texas does not chase the JD nearly as much. They even swam by each other without any aggression once or twice. So things are starting to settle down. Hopefully as the JD gets more comfortable he will fight back a bit. But so far the Texan can go any where he wants, and the JD can not go near the Texan's cave.

The syno still goes whereever he wants, but it looks like the Texas and him have come to an understanding since there is no more chasing going on between those two.

the JD will never fight back, and the texas is only going to outgrow it more. This is a good thing, because the bigger the texas gets, the less of a threat the texas sees the JD to be to its dominance.
