What to keep my 25 clown loaches in?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that was about 5 minutes of putting crap in the tank before I left for work, I still have to go out and look for the right stuff but the loaches love the tank so far. I really liked the modesta which is unfortunate because I thought I could keep them with the CL's. I probably won't bother setting up they're own tank for them. They're still in my QT 10gallon right now. I only paid $10 for 4 of them and I figure I can make that back off of them, probably even double since I've never seen them in my area.

There's always time until you can set up a tank for your modestas. I made a new thread in this section. You can read there. It will actually give you plenty of ideas of how a loach tank would look like. Credit goes to Graeme Robson as the tank being shown there is not mine. I know I'd love to post mine but it's really not ready at the moment.

Just tried taking some pictures of them and got nothing.. They're really shy so I'm thinking of adding some tank mates but I don't really have anything right now. Aside from the kuhlis and modesta which I now know neither of them will work all I've got that that I think could possibly work is 4 2.5" lace cats, 12 1" pink convicts, a 3" green severum, and 5 3-4 clowns". Could I put any of these in here? I'm sure if I put the lace cats in there it wouldn't make a difference but the convicts might keep the loaches on the move. I wouldn't be keeping them in there for long, I just want to get them out of hiding.

Convicts are out of the question. Severums are fine. I have two gold severums with my loaches and as these are mild-mannered, they won't pose too much trouble at all unlike most other CA/SA cichlids. If you mean the lace catfish (Synodontis nigriventris), they're also fine.

The larger clown loaches can be put there but the downside is that the smaller ones will have to compete in order to get their fair share of foods. Give those smaller clowns a few months before introducing the larger ones so they will eventually be able to compete well for food.

you think 1 severum twice their size will be fine to put in there? Hes not agro at all but he is a cichlid and he is a lot bigger than them. I have my other loaches at 2-3" in with 4" midas, saggitae, and lyonsi, so I think the convicts would be fine, but I'm not going to do it. And How about a 3.5" raphael cat?

Hi i love clown loaches they are amongst the best fish to keep, i am now the proud owner of 15 in total. 5 are well over 12 centimeters, or 5 inches. the larger are separate from the smaller but i want to keep them together. they seem to prefer low light, larger groups and mine love to eat defrosted shrimp. In New Zealand a single clown loach around 3 inches long i have seen priced at $80 NZ about $65 US.

Wow.. I got my 1.5-2" clown loaches for $2 a piece. The bigger ones between 3-3.5" cost me $7 or $8 a piece. The reason I got so many of these is because they grow to 3-4" pretty quickly and I should be able to sell them for at least $6 a piece which is triple what I paid for them.
