hi..im starting my first nano marine tank tomorrow..i've no experience with marine...what should i be looking for when purchasing live rock? my local LFS has lots of purple rock and man made rock...whats the best option?
thanks

I'm no expert, but the purple is a coralline algae that is generally though of as desirable, so that's a good sign.

Okk guys,i just set up my tank using about 2.5-3kg of live rock...will this rock all die during the cycling process? i also forgot to scrub the rock before placing in the tank! is this a problem? i just got excited y'know!

A certain amount of die off always occurs during transport of live rock or live sand. It will recover what died off during the cycle.

Not scrubbing the LR isnt an issue, especially since you dont have any fish/inverts/corals in the tank. If anything, it just adds to the ammonia which will help fuel the cycle.

smell the rock. if it smells like sea there is no mistake that it is alive.

looks good

just a few pics for you guy's. just wondering how much water i should change each week during the cycling stage? i dont have a test kit at the minute.
