What would be good fish to put in a 29 gallon tank that would not outgrow it? Are there any cichlids that would fit in a 29 gallon?

Thanks

really only tetras and smaller comunity fish would be able to live there life out in a 29. but maybe someone will be able to open up the options

I think you should look at dwarf cichlids, like apistogrammas, bolivian & blue rams, keyholes, dwarf acaras. You could also keep a breeding pair of anything archocentrus, amatitlania, cryptoheros, thorichthys, or australoheros, gymnogeophagus generas too, but they might get too big eventually.

You could keep angelfish.

here are some ideas from another forum, make sure you click on the 20g long stocking schemes as well. Thats where most of the setups are.

see i told you someone with much more knowledge would come by. i use my 29 as a grow-out tank. but i hope to see a good looking tank in the near future!

if you want cichlids I would only look at the dwarf species .... but you could get some white clouds, some guppies , neons, cardinal tetras ,cory catfish, platys, swordtails, mollies, moons, not all in the tank but just a few toehr options to think about

badis badis are really nice fish. cichlid wise, shell dwellers are really cute, maybe one blue ram with some tankmates.:)

A HUGE AZZ MALE CONVICT ALL THE WAY

it is my favorite cichlid for a small tank now :)

I keep a breeding pair of Archocentrus centrarchus in a 37g (same footprint as a 29g but taller) with a breeding pair of Ameca splendens, and a BN pleco. All of the above are incredibly pretty and breed like clockwork. Awesome fish.

I just got a new 29g, I'm gonna plant it heavily, put a school of tetras in there and some dwarf cichlids. Just some ideas.

thanks for the comments! Any ideas where to get these fish? Walmart is the only place that sells fish around here.

get a pair or two of small convicts, then in about a month youll have hundreds of convicts.

or planted shrimp tank!!
