You could always try freshwater puffers IMO they got a great personality for a small fish.

cons, jewels, rainbows, any tanganyikan shell dweller, dwarf gouramis, school of tiger barbs, most common community fish (i.e. swords, guppies, tetras, etc...), most loaches, corys, angelfish, HRPs, Cryptoheros cutteri, kribs, probably big enough for a few mudskippers, 1 betta =), or what I really want to do if I had a spare tank - get like 20 cardinal tetras and breed them like crazy and make tons of mulla =D. Of course, each of these wouldn't go in the same tank, etc... or you could go all zen like and make it a planted tank with like a small school of rasboras or something, Takashi Amano status like.
