I just pick up this canister and was cleaning it out. The top tray was full of Ceramic rings. The bottom tray was full of what looked like regular gravel from the driveway. To seed the ceramic rings, I filled the bottom tray with gravel from an established tank. My question is what to put in the bottom tray later?

I'd ditch all the media that was included, as it sounds like lava rock. The bottom tray on eheim pro 2s should have the mechanical media. Ehfi mech would be the ideal, and ehfi substrat pro for the top 1 or 2 trays.
It isn't lava rock, I tell you it was gravel from someones drive way. I have never seen anything like it before. I've never seen the products you refered to, but I've never really looked at the Eheim stuff. Is it available at Doc Foster's? I'll give it a look.
