What to recommend for a first tank

Fish shopping is a great idea! Ill take Jim next time I go to my LFS and see what catches his eye. Well he said his budget is $200-400 . So im thinking a decent sized tank for 75-150$ and a canister for 75-150$ heater and pump .. Decor .. Plus I have a lot if extra stuff..
Thanks for the help! I've had 3 oscars and they all get big, hungry, and bossy within 6 months.

I think 55 or 75 gallon is a good starter tank... if he does a 75 maybe a cichlid community consiting of blood parrots, a jack dempsey, some jewl cichlids, a seganal birchir and some silver dollars...
