well two clown fish of a very small species, or some small gobys, maybe a small blenny, shrimp would definitely be an option. The usual variety's and maybe a cleaner shrimp. You would however have to be careful that you don't introduce any cnidarians of other coral, anemone like animals that could attack and kill small fish. You could use usual volcanic rock, but it is not quite as good as the live rock as you will not be introducing tens or hundreds of different species of algae, bacteria and other organisms like you get on live rock. Some live rock you can by is really decorative and could make for a nice invert only tank even!

I remember about four years ago when I was twelve. A horrible aquarist I knew in an aquatics tried to turn my mum of off letting me have a reef tank. I new loads though and had read a tone of mags and books in the process of researching. He had it coming to him, and a couple of years ago I was in pfk, June issue, I think it was in 2007. He always read that mag and must have seen my three page spread. He had shown his face in an inch square box once in that magazine as I remember.

Here are some pictures. The rock to the left on the top image is now covered in mushroom polyps. I can not however find my phone so When I find it I will upload some pics.
