What to stock a pond with non native?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not sure about the legality of keeping them but there are numerous sturgeon species that can handle warmer waters. The lower Mississippi drainage has like 3 or 4. A few don't get big either. We have Atlantic sturgeon here in NC But they are critically endangered and grow to like 18 feet.

Gar will be fine in those temps and will not eat your bass. Get some long nose gar. Their mouths are to small to eat bigger bass and they prefer minnows and small silvery fish as bait. You could probably get some around you. I think their range stretches to lower Canada.

Id like to get some longnose gar in the pond soon. Might get some channel cats and some koi too. Hoping to grab some smaller channel cats shipped from my house in florida or I can go get some myself and bring some down. Gonna get a dock and going to cut down the smaller plants and shrubs around the pond down. Then I can find a good place to build a dock or maybe buy one and get an aireator set up to where I can walk out onto the dock and throw pellets in to the pond for max growth
