What to use to clean a tank.

Hello and welcome!

Ive read that too, but have always found a stronger solution works a bit better as i can work a bit faster. I usually use the smell test to see if Im ready. If I c an still smell it, I continue to rinse it. Same approach to filter socks and plastic plants....once I can't smell bleach I add lots of declorinator, rinse again, then go.

Live pants are not an area I'm very good at....most of the fish i keep make short work of them lol. but I do recommend using fluorite for substrate and around 1.5-2 watts per gallon for lighting.

Ive bought wood from Manzanita works, the driftwood store and some of my favorite pieces were from petco. Lots of good wood to be found in the marketplace/vendor area of this site

Thanks so much! I'm actually the OPs girlfriend, lol. We'll be setting up the 120 gallon with things like silver dollars, tin foil barbs, bala sharks...that sort. The 75 gallon will be oscars and maybe a jack Dempsey. I can't wait until we can get a bigger tank one day and get some more vicious cichlids...but for now, this is fine! Haha. Thanks for the advice. The fish in your profile pic is gorgeous. I saw your post about the 300 gallon, awesome looking tank and I hope it does great! I only read the first few posts in that thread, but have you stated what sorts of fish you are going to put in it?

To this, I have a question. You said lights of 1.5 - 2 watts per gallon. That would be 240 watts.. The lights at petco went up to like 40 max watts. So where would I get a high wattage light like that, and is that needed fora freshwater tank?

one Oscar needs a 70 gallon 4ft tank. So you can only keep one if you keep t in a 75 gallon 4ft tank. Bleach is good. If you have a contagious sickness such as culumnaris you so you can sanitize your nets , buckets , syphons ECT
