What turtles dont eat fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FRTs are actually pretty easy to find where I am from (Montreal, QC).

Beblondie is right, they are vegeterian, but will eat anything when hungry. Mine eats pellets, superworms, market shrimps, and the occasional Clown Loach fins...

Found a dude recently in Sydney selling FRT's/PNT's for $400 - $700 here in Sydney. Is that a good price??

Good luck getting an FRT mate. They are now totally protected, as they should have always been seeing as they are a critically endangered species. I know there is a bloke in NSW Australia that has just bred a batch and is selling for $900.00 each. This is great news because this is the first I have ever heard of an FRT being available in Australia.

Theo,
They are a natural part of the fauna of Northern Territory and they have been captive bred in Australia (so probably the rest of the world) for a while. There is at least one licensed breeder up there in NT that I know of.

Its good to see more captive bred PNG's. But you will find that there is a large amount of sellers trying to offload ilegally caught specimens. I am totally against the trade of wild caught pig nosed turtles.
They are classed as endanged due to its restricted range. Within the range they are quite common, for example Northern Territory, but if they keep getting exported for the aquarium trade theire chances of survival are at risk.

I managed to get my hands on one of these not so long ago, and still got him, they're great turtles but if oppurtunity arises they will eat fish... I had a weak pleco in the tank and am sure, to this day, that it was the FRT that finished him off, having said that i wouldn't ever sell him for the life of me, he's the main focus of my aquarium...

His standard diet is:
Kiwi and banana stuffed with reptomin
Hikari massivore (if he gets them before the catfish)
Algae wafers
Any frozen food big enough that he gets to (prawn, mussel etc)

Edit:
Me and my friends were fairly successful at keeping small soft shell turtles up to about 6" shell with large community fish as they are too slow 90% of the time to catch them, BUT they will try (hence why it only worked in tanks with quick large fish) and in hindsight i wouldn't recommend it as they also need basking spots (we did this with floating piece of cork) and UV spots.

well gambling is great...its thrilling when you have the biggest bet

The only turtle that will not eat a fish is a dead one...
