It's very rare to see them in any LFS and the price tag is high for them. They are small fish (max size at 1 inch) so it's easy to get bully even in community tank (the price is range from 8~12 dollars each).

There's a lfs about 50km away from me that had these pretty expensive for such a small fish. R50 each and then with a suggestion of keeping 20 or more that becomes a very steep price

Petco and Petsmart usually have them for around $3.50 each. Very common fish nowadays.

they look like a really brightly colored Brook Trout

I have a few of them. Beautiful fish, and Lovely colors. Don't school together as I want them too.
