What type of Frontosa is this? (pic)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It seems like a blue Zaïre to me.
It is also possible it is this one: Cyphotilapia Frontosa Blue Mpimbwe

I also had 6 of these, I will try to post picture. I only need to find out how this works.

From the zorro mask and the way the stripe fills the cheek, I would guess Mpimbwe or Bismark blue.

In my area, 4-6 inch Mpimbwe would go for about 65-85 USD. I have never seen a Bismark at the LFS.

I got a hold of the manager at the pet store i bought it from(wasn't there when i bought it). He said that it was a bismark frontosa. i read that they dont get a huge hump on there head like other frontosas. is that true? I also read that they are very slow growers, so mine would be around 1.5 years old?

Yeah, they grow slow and some people say they can live for 25-35 years. They all get a hump, but the monster humps are on the Burundi.

Egg to 4-5 inches in a year is normal. You can get slower and faster growers out of a colony, with the alpha growing the fastest and could top 6" in a year but that is very rare. A single fish will be alpha since there isn't any competition, but he will probably be lonely. I have never kept a loner so don't know how they will fare in the long run.
