kinda has body shape of a gator to me.

Yup! Alligator gar! Congrats, you were able to find what a lot of gar enthusiats are looking for(including myself) a "real deal" alligator gar! GL with him and keep us updated.:D

Thanks guys for helping me ID my Gar.
Im over the moon to find out that she (dont ask, i just think she is a she lol, hence the name "Ally") is a Alligator Gar.
Not sure if its a good thing tho, as i only have a 6"x2"x2" tank!!!:WHOA:
IF i do intend to keep her, what sort of size tank would i end up needing? And how long before would need to get said tank??
Once again thanks guys. :D

think large pond instead of tank.Atractosteus spatula- alligator gar 6-10 feet

Oh boy, thats a tough one to answer. I am going to guess, no less than 500 gallons for life. How soon? I am thinking you've got some time. I don't think any gar is an extreamly fast grower. Hope someone with more experience tackles this question for me. I'm kind of curious what others think.

i think you could be okay for atleast 2-3 years in ur 180gal tank. but do start to plan ahead if u plan to keep it. it will need something above 1k gallons to be happy. of course you can stick him in a 10x4x4 aquarium but it wont really be happy in the long long run. build it a pool or pond if possible.

how did you find such a small one this time of year? great fish!
