Hello; My latest experiment in lighting has worked out well and is cheap. I posted about this a few times with no feedback. My guess is that this may be because the lights are not custom. Maybe because they are too inexpensive. Not sure but it has worked out well.
I picked up a 4 ft LED shop light to replace the old shop light in my basement. I saw that it was in the "daylight" end of the spectrum. I stuck it on a 55 gallon planted tank just to see how it looked with the plan to only use it for a few days.
It has been on th55 for well over a year now. The plants grow good. I grabbed it off a discount section at a Wal-Mart for $25. I think they are around $35 regular price. I was lucky in that it did fit well on my existing hood so did not have to fabricate a cover. Guess it depends on how a person thinks tank equipment ought to be. I use what works and being cheaper is a bonus.
