Hi,

I got this Oscar from lfs a couple days ago. Doing great and eating like a pig.
This is my first Oscar. Even though I've seen a lot of the darker types this one just caught my eye. He's probably 6" and the lfs said previous owner rehomed him because he was bullying some smaller tankmates.
What type/color/morph is this?
Thanks for opinion.

Oscars have been line bred for many colors, and fin extensions for decades, they are all Astronotus ocellatus, just color selected like black angels or blue guppies, or goldfish. They are not different species. (although there are, a couple different wild species)
There has been talk of late, of genetically engineering the fluorescent glow chromosome into them, the one that that has been extracted from jelly fish and some other fluorescent sea creatures to create glow oscars.

That's crazy.
Is it only Oscars that this technique can be applied to?
Or could that same technique be applied to any species of fish?

All of the "Glowfish" out there already had it done to them, Teresa, danio's, and barbs so far.

a lot of red oscars in LFS when i go in there, i dont know much about oscars, but that looks relaitvely close to some of the colors ive seen in reds. i learned something from the above posters on this

Honestly looks like my old lemon Oscar I had, just a few inches smaller.its probably a lemon Oscar like mine was. I'll attach a pic of "Goldie" here.
