WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST FISH?

When I was 9, I had a 5G tank with black mollies. I was fascinated with livebearers.

I don't know how the fish survived! I would periodically clean the tank by removing the fish, scrubbing the tank, gravel, etc. with soap, removing the filter floss and charcoal from the box filter, replacing the water with chlorinated tap water, then adding fish. Needless to say the fish were stressed by the end of their ordeal.

Thankfully, I have improved my fish keeping techniques since then.

yeah, mollys are EXTREMELY hardy, my first fish was and IS a betta(i named him alpha). i only just started with fish so he is still alive.

My first fish was a goldfish in a 3 gallon bowl... lived 3 years... did 80% water changes everyday... had an airstone to promote water movement and aeration... but at that time I only added that because I thought the bubbles were cool... fed it only a few pellets one at a time once or twice a day...

My first fish was probably a goldfish from the fair when I was very little kid. What got me interested was I got some piranhas I got while in highschool. I quit keeping fish for awhile then bought a redtail catfish about 4 yrs. ago. The redtail catfish really got me wanting to know of other cool fish. I bought it before I realized they get huge. If I ever can get a pond for one I would like to get another one.

Mollies about 12 years ago. I don't keep livebearers now. Who knew these fish can breed quite fast..I've had enough dealing with fry.

Here's some history for you. I got back into fishkeeping three years ago, with a KOI from Walmart in a ten gallon. I have kept fish since I was a kid, but never new much about it. Add one membership to MFK and one good job, and I now have 16 tanks and zero KOI. Thanks, MFK for all the knowledge. If it weren't for this site, I would have a 12" KOI in a ten gallon tank right now. LOL
